Terms & Conditions
Standard Booking Terms & Conditions
By booking tickets, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions.
1. Your Booking
- Tickets are valid only for the date and departure time booked.
- Please bring your booking confirmation (printed or on your mobile device).
- Please arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.
- Trains cannot be held for late arrivals and missed departures are non-refundable.
2. Heritage Railway Operations
The Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway is a volunteer-operated heritage railway using historic locomotives and rolling stock. While we make every effort to provide the advertised experience, changes are sometimes necessary.
3. Changes to Services
We reserve the right to alter or substitute locomotives, rolling stock, departure times, seating or other aspects of the service without prior notice where operationally necessary.
This may be due to weather conditions, elevated fire risk, engineering issues, locomotive or volunteer availability, Network Rail restrictions or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
A change from steam to heritage diesel (or vice versa) does not constitute cancellation of the service and does not entitle customers to a refund or compensation.
4. Cancellations
If we are unable to operate a train service, you will be offered either:
- a transfer to another available date; or
- a full refund.
5. Accessibility
Accessibility facilities vary between trains. If you require wheelchair access or assistance, please contact our office before travelling so we can discuss the most suitable arrangements.
Accessibility Notice
Wheelchair users: At present, wheelchair-accessible travel is only available on our 1960s Heritage DMU services.
Unfortunately, our accessible carriage is currently out of service while repairs are undertaken. As a result, we are unable to accommodate wheelchair users on steam or heritage diesel services at this time. Please note the accessible carriage will be available for our Santa Steam Trains.
We apologise for the inconvenience this causes. If you have any questions or would like advice before booking, please contact our office and we'll be happy to help.
Where applicable, one accompanying carer may travel free of charge when accompanying the person they are supporting. Eligibility must be confirmed by presenting appropriate supporting identification on arrival (for example, a National Entitlement Card displaying the Carer Travel symbol). If suitable proof cannot be provided, the carer will be required to purchase a standard ticket.
Please note that complimentary carer tickets are not available for all special events. Any exceptions will be stated on the relevant event page.
6. Visitor Behaviour
We want everyone to enjoy their visit.
Anyone behaving in an abusive, aggressive, threatening or unsafe manner, or failing to follow reasonable instructions from staff or volunteers, may be refused entry or asked to leave the railway without refund.
This applies to behaviour in person, by telephone, email and on our social media channels.
7. Special Events
Some events, including dining trains and special experiences, have additional Terms & Conditions which will be published with the event details.
8. Liability
We are not responsible for delays, alterations or cancellations caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, fire risk, infrastructure issues, Network Rail restrictions or other unforeseen events.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights.
